2012 Movie Review - MovieScraps

2012, like the trailers show, is about the end of the world as predicted by the Ancient Mayans - as advertised extensively. Graphic and sound effects of the movie are good. Action is moderate. characters revolve along the lines of putting family first. The plot ravels steadily in this movie of epic proportions!

Amidst all the buzz, we rate it a 3.

It is surprising and refreshing to see a young computer graphics enhanced Bruce Willis in this action flick. The CG is amazing, the action is moderate, with a twisting plot storyline.

All in all 3.5 stars.

Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince Movie Review

Harry Potter 6 Movie Review

Harry Potter 6 Movie Review

Emboldened by the return of Lord Voldemort, the Death Eaters are wreaking havoc in both the Muggle and wizarding worlds and Hogwarts is no longer the safe haven it once was. Harry suspects that new dangers may lie within the castle, but Dumbledore is more intent upon preparing him for the final battle that he knows is fast approaching. He needs Harry to help him uncover a vital key to unlocking Voldemort’s defenses—critical information known only to Hogwarts’ former Potions Professor, Horace Slughorn. With that in mind, Dumbledore manipulates his old colleague into returning to his previous post with promises of more money, a bigger office…and the chance to teach the famous Harry Potter.

Meanwhile, the students are under attack from a very different adversary as
teenage hormones rage across the ramparts. Harry’s long friendship with Ginny Weasley is growing into something deeper, but standing in the way is Ginny’s boyfriend, Dean Thomas, not to mention her big brother Ron. But Ron’s got romantic entanglements of his own to worry about, with Lavender Brown lavishing her affections on him, leaving Hermione simmering with jealousy yet determined not to show her feelings. And then a box of love potion-laced chocolates ends up in the wrong hands and changes everything. As romance blossoms, one student remains aloof with far more important matters on his mind. He is determined to make his mark, albeit a dark one. Love is in the air, but tragedy lies ahead and Hogwarts may never be the same again.

All in all, 4 stars.

Transformer 2

Transformer 2

Synopsis

In “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,” two years have passed since Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) and the Autobots saved the human race from the invading Decepticons.  Now he’s preparing for the biggest challenge of his life: leaving home for college.  Despite his extreme heroics, the battle of Mission City has become an urban legend believed only by conspiracy theorists.  Sam is still an average teenager with everyday anxieties and excitement about heading off into adulthood, separating from his parents (Kevin Dunn and Julie White) for the first time, and vowing to be faithful to girlfriend Mikaela (Megan Fox).  Of course, he also has to explain his departure to his guardian robot, Bumblebee.

Review

Before we talk about the learning point, let’s talk about the rating of the movie. I would give 9 over 9 for this movie for the movie quality, sound system and story line.

As Transformer 2 is the continuous from Transformer 1, the story line was well told and people easily relate to it. The explanation was also done clearly in the movie.

As for the graphic, more robots this time around. I think Transformer 2 is able to meet the expectation of the audiences as people are expecting more robots and interesting story line.

I word to describe this movie: Brilliant

Key learning point

Transformer robots like and other robots described in the science friction are different in the sense that they have emotionally soft part for living beings.

In the movie, it explains that the leaders of the Cybertron which are called the Primes (Optimus Prime is one of them) were set to find energy sources for their planet in other planets and thus they found earth. They vow not to kill any living beings.

The key learning point is to live and let’s lives. Human beings are born with similar physical characters and because of different environment, experience and education; we behave differently with different personality.

Though at times, we might be selfish when fighting for a better place to live in this world, we might hurt someone around us unintentionally. Therefore, it’s always important to remember that every living being should be given a fair chance to live in this world. For the wrong should be forgiven and success should be cherished together.

As Optimus Prime said, “I have witnessed the capacity and capability of human beings which is able to overcome obstacles.”

Review

Good plot and graphics.  Though at times the machines will creep up on does that cheap thrill thingy to scare the audience.

Arnold played a tiny part in the movie too.  I think Christian Bale did a good job as John Connor.

All in all, I would rate it 4 stars out of 5.

Star Trek

Star Trek

Star Trek

Sypnosis

The greatest adventure of all time begins with “Star Trek,” the incredible story of a young crew’s maiden voyage onboard the most advanced starship ever created, the U.S.S. Enterprise. In the midst of an incredible journey full of optimism, intrigue, comedy and socmic peril, the new recruits must finda way to stop an evil being whose mission of vengeance threatens all of mankind.

The fate of the galaxy rests in the hands of bitter rivals born world apart. One, James Tiberius Kirk (Chris Pine), a delinquent, thrill-seeking Iowa farm boy, a natural-born leader in search of a cause. The other, Spock (Zachary UInto), grows up on the planet Vulcan, an outcast due to his half-human background, which makes him susceptible to the volatile emotions that Vulcans have long lived without, and yet an ingenious, determined student, who will become the first of his kind accepted into the Starfleet Academy.

Kirck and Spock could not be more different. Yet, in their quest to figure out who they really are and what they have to give to the world, they soon become competitive cadets in training. With their drastically opposite styles, one driven by fiery passion, the other by rigorous logic, they also become defiant, contentious adversaries, each equally unimpressed with the other, each going all out to be among the special few chosen to join the crew of the most advanced starship ever created, the U.S.S. Enterprise.

The crew is headed by Captain Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood). Joining him are the ship’s Medical Officer Leonard “Bones” McCoy (Simon Pegg), Communications Officer Uhura (Zoe Saldana), experienced Helmsman Sulu (John Cho), and the 17 year old whiz kid Chekov (Anton Yelchin). All will face a harrowing first test that will set in motion the loyalty, camaraderie, daring and good humor that will bind them forever.

In the midst of it all, Kirk and Spock will come face-to-face with an undeniable destiny, a need to forge and unlikely but powerful partnership enabling them to lead their crew to boldly go where no one has gone before.

Release Date: 7 May 09

=====================================================

Key learning point.

“You are capable of deciding your destiny; the question is which path do you choose”.
Told by Spock’s father to Spock on the advise of choosing the right path for himself. Spock was born with a half blood human and half blood Vulcan where the race regards emotional feeling as weak and should not be used as a guideline for decision making.

However, his father advice to him is to be able to choose the right path for himself. Similarly, in life, the three most important questions are, “where we want to go”, “What should we do to get there” and “What is the price we are willing to pay to get there”. By answering these questions will be able to help us to formulate a plan and be mentally and emotionally prepared to get where we want to go. Your goal is your destination and your plan is your map of direction.
